We are a same-sex couple and we would like to move to Italy. Will our relationship be recognized by the Italian authorities? Is the same valid in Malta?

At present, Italy does recognize same-sex couples provided they are in possess of a civil union certificate. If your spouse is an EU citizen he/she can come to live and work in Italy without any problem, if on the other hand the spouse is a Non EU citizen, he/she is eligible to be considered family dependent provided that he/she is in possess of a civil union certificate. At present, Malta does not recognize same-sex couples equally depending on nationality of the applicants either EU or Non EU. This must be assessed on a case by case basis.
