Moving and relocating to another Country can be scary and disorienting…luckily enough you can count on your Relocation Associate, who will help you during the entire process.
To make you more comfortable and confident regarding your first steps in Italy, here is an easy checklist of the very first things you must do in the first week of your stay!
If you are an EU citizen…
First thing first, you must request your Italian Tax Code. This is a must-have form many administrative procedures, such as opening an Italian bank account and sign a lease contract. In fact, without Tax Code, you cannot sign any lease contract and you risk missing out on your dream home! Furthermore, having an Italian bank account could be helpful when opening utilities on your new home.
Then, it is time to find a home. During the home search, your Relocation Associate will help you navigate thought the Italian real estate market, which is surely tough, but with a little bit of patience it can be manageable. Upon finding a suitable house and signing the lease contract, you are ready for the next step…
The Town Hall registration – we already discussed this topic in a previous article, but to sum up, if your stay is more than 90 days, you must complete the Town Hall registration in order to have a certificate of residence.
Last but not least, in order to have medical assistance you must enroll to the National Health System. Being enrolled in the NHS gives you the opportunity to choose your family doctor, who will give you the prescription for many drugs and medical certificates.
If you are non-EU…
The first thing you must do is requesting the work permit (Nulla Osta) – your Relocation Associate will support you in gathering all the necessary documents. Remember that obtaining the work permit can take from 3 to 6 months! Eventually, when the work permit is ready, you can go to the Italian Embassy in your Country and request the visa. Within 3 months you must arrive in Italy, where you will sign the contract of stay (contratto di soggiorno). When in Italy, supported by your Relocation Associate, you shall go the Post Office and sign every form of the Poste Office Kit in order to request the permit of stay. Then, after having paid for the permit, they will issue a receipt with the appointment at the Questura for the biometrics appointment. When the biometrics data are collected, they will issue your permit of stay. Please note that timing depends on the Questura!
Upon having your permit of stay, the following steps are the same as above.
Should you want to move to Italy for an Italian experience (not work related), certain steps will not be needed and others will their place.
